Transport |
|
In Australia Transport is accounted for 15% of emission and making an effort to reduce our personal use of transport energy is something we could act upon, before we could afford to purchase the electricity powered car, or until the affordable air powered car is on the market. Take a walk, ride a bike, use public transport, share the driving… when making a purchase, consider the transportation of the goods’ involved. Generally, local produce is the best, provided ingredients are locally sourced. Air freighted goods are the most carbon intensive. And don’t forget to ASK MORE from our leaders to shift policy, to invest, and support the switch from fossil fuel to eco friendly public transport system and sustainable automobile technology. Having said that, here is some food for thought. A 2007 report from the Earth Institute affirms that changing from a meat-based to a vegetarian diet is at least 50% more effective in counteracting climate change as switching from a Suburban SUV to a Toyota hybrid car. |
